The MHL's epic game plan for ending the stigma against mental illness by 2020

BACKGROUND

Our goal is to end the stigma against mental health conditions by the start of 2020. To accomplish this, we needed a way to measure progress. Stigma isn't the easiest thing to measure, but we think we figured it out.

 

THE TIPPING POINT  |  According to a study by scientists at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, once 10% of a population is committed to an idea, it’s inevitable that it will eventually become the prevailing opinion of the entire group. If we can change how 10% of the population perceives their mental health condition, and shift them from stigma to a place of strength, we can encourage the entire population to respond with the same mentality.

 

HOW TO CHANGE PEOPLE'S MINDS  |  SHARE YOUR STORIES!  On average, a person has 193 social media followers. So for each person that shares their story, we'll assume we can reach that many people.
