Today is #WorldMentalHealthDay and my relationship with anxiety and depression my whole life is why I do the work I do. I know how it feels to be anxious and antsy in school, obsessed about grades, trying so hard to fit in. I know what it feels like to stay for days on end in bed because I literally didn’t have the energy to start again or panic attacks about paying rent and sending money home. I know what it’s like to feel alone and isolated with no one there, and unable to see other options. I know what it’s like to blame myself for how I feel rather than acknowledging that this may just be a chemical imbalance, and completely normal, and not. my. fault.

I’ve committed myself to the reclamation of healing through the work I do at Yoga Foster,Mental Health League, and Dahla because they’re the programs and communities I wish I had — and all the other people out there like us. I’m not going to say that you’re never alone, because feeling alone is everything, regardless who else does have your back and is rallying for you from afar. I just want you to know that I see you. I can understand. And we’re going to get through this together. I promise to keep building and sharing so we can end the stigma and unlock access, whether it’s through mindfulness in schools, or a community of people living like there’s no off-season.

Many of you have opened up to me about your journey with mental health, and you keep me inspired everyday. Our struggles are our strengths, don’t give up 💪🏾 (ps I’m wearing the#TeamAnxietees hat from the Mental Health League launch lineup. It was Mike's idea to use a manatee as the mascot and I’m obsessed).
