“Up, down, but never out!” The stigma overwhelming mental illness and those seeking mental health services is disappointing. Society says any other organ in our bodies can be dysfunctional and that that’s okay - yet, our brains cannot. We need to get better. All of us. I live every day with the intention and hope of setting an example for those around me. I do have some restrictions, extra responsibilities, and limitations - but, I am capable, I am diligent, I am succeeding. I take a mood stabilizer (among others) to stay healthy in the same way that someone else takes their blood pressure medication. Mental illness shouldn’t be stigmatized, neither should going to therapy, or seeing a psychiatrist, or taking medications, or not being okay all of the time. I am hopeful that we’ll deconstruct the stigma. I have a great fan base behind me that have been there through thick and thin (I owe so much to C and D). I am blessed beyond measure. Game on.
